‘Tis The Season…To Take Action!

‘Tis the season!… for holiday parties, and other festivities that can get us out of our normal routine…

With the end of 2021 upon us, and 2022 only a couple of weeks away, now is a good time to reflect on the past year and start planning for the upcoming year ahead. However, rather than waiting until January 1st for a “New Year, New Me” or your New Year’s resolutions, why not start now? Don’t wait until tomorrow, start TODAY! Make this the season where you begin to take action!

It is becoming more and more normal NOT to drink. In fact, many of us are highly sensitive to the effects of alcohol, while others have a much higher tolerance and are less likely to experience any of the negative side effects.

Not sure where to start? Ever feel pressured into drinking? Need some motivation or inspiration? Check out this article from Women’s Health about 53 celebrities who do NOT drink alcohol! If they don’t drink alcohol, you don’t need to either!

If going to a party worries you if you are cutting out alcohol, never feel the need to give into peer pressure. Never feel ashamed to put our own needs first because at the end of the day, we tend to be our own worst critics and “those that mind, don’t matter and those who matter, don’t mind”.

So, if you are going to a holiday party, you can still enjoy yourself and not miss out! There is nothing wrong with swapping out a cocktail for a “mocktail” or even just having a glass of water! Nothing feels better than putting your own needs first! While some of us find drinking alcohol pleasant, others have extreme negative reactions and are unable to consume alcohol at all. Listen to YOUR own body as your own genetics play a large role in determining how you metabolize alcohol, and how likely you are to experience some of the side effects associated with drinking.

While we should all enjoy this holiday season, we should continue to still work on maintaining our own health and fitness goals and not let the holiday season get in our way. The most important way to optimize our health is to also maintain a healthy and balanced diet, keep up our physical exercise, and manage symptoms of stress. An individually tailored diet is key to optimizing your body’s functionality and overall health.

Whether you are going to a holiday party, or celebrating at home, it is important to pay attention to our food sensitivities as well.

Food sensitivities are adverse reactions to specific foods which are usually due to the body’s inability to absorb specific nutrients or having too much or too little enzyme activity needed for normal digestion. Depending on your genetic make-up, you may have a predisposition to being sensitive or intolerant to certain foods and substances. Some individuals may have no food sensitivities at all, while some of us (like myself) may have food sensitivities to many foods such as gluten, lactose/ dairy, alcohol, caffeine, and more. The good news is that it is now easier to take care of our own health and well-being than ever before!

Therefore, we must continuously remind ourselves to put our health needs first. Unfortunately, I know first-hand the struggles of food sensitivities myself. Gluten, dairy, alcohol, caffeine, you name it! So, if you’ve gotten back your Love My Health report and notice you have some food sensitivities and are not sure where to start…don’t worry! It is not as bad as you may think! Stay tuned for our Feed My Genes DNA Diet Playbook…coming soon!
