Going Gluten Free Has Never Been So Easy!
We hope everyone is continuing to stay healthy, happy, and safe during these times.
National Gluten Free Day was recognized this past month on January 13th.
Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, spelt, rye, and any products made from these grains. While many gluten-containing foods are considered good sources of whole grains, some people are unable to digest gluten. In its milder form, gluten intolerance can lead individuals to experience gastrointestinal issues and headaches when they consume gluten. It is estimated that approximately 5-10% of people worldwide suffer from some form of gluten intolerance and 1% of the population is diagnosed with celiac disease. Celiac is an autoimmune disorder in which gluten causes damage to the villi in the small intestines. The intestinal damage often causes diarrhea, fatigue, weight loss, bloating, and anemia, and can lead to more serious complications. A group of genes called the HLA complex are largely responsible for the genetic basis of gluten intolerance.
Living on a gluten free diet either because of celiac disease or non-celiac is simple today. Having been diagnosed with celiac in 1985, there was only one single specialty food store selling gluten free products that was located at the Hospital for Sick Children. Today, you can walk into every grocery store where you will find a wide selection of quality gluten free products. The same goes for restaurants that provide gluten free options today which also makes travel much easier than it used to be only a decade ago.
Our Love My Health Test has a section that primarily deals with the risk of celiac disease. A simple cheek swab in the comfort of your home, and results will be delivered electronically to you in just a couple of weeks. Using cutting edge technology, we analyze your DNA, and based on this information we create an actionable nutritional, exercise, and lifestyle recommendations for you related to your dietary needs, food sensitivities (including a separate section for gluten), fitness planning and physical health management, as well as cardiovascular and metabolic health. Each section of the report provides you with direct changes that you can make today and empowers you to improve your health and well-being!
Optimizing your health and well-being has never been so simple, personalized, and easy! We are excited to help everyone on your continued paths to living your best lives and are excited for all the exciting additions we have coming up this year!
